ffmpeg, H.264, Opus, PNG/JPEG: pure Rust pipelines

Why this band exists

Every crafted PNG, every booby-trapped MP4, every thumbnail on every phone still routes through decades-old C libraries with the same CVE class year after year. Remade Media rebuilds the codecs and pipelines that carry sound and image without a C toolchain, so that exploit category stops compiling for browsers, streams, and neighborhood nodes alike.

Why now

Media is the silent attack surface of the consumer internet. A Home Computer that opens wedding video, a doorbell that encodes H.264, a mesh peer that thumbs an album: each one used to drag FFmpeg-class C into the trust boundary. Pure-Rust pipelines keep Digital Freedom honest when the file is adversarial.

How it fits

Mind engines need decoders that will not smash the heap. Memory stores thumbnails and blobs the codecs produce. Edge cameras encode on-device with the same stack. Trust audits the crates before you flash a peer. Media is the river every other star drinks from.

What to build first

  1. A player or transcoder path on remade_ffmpeg_rs without GPL C on the peer
  2. Doorbell or camera encode/decode on rusty_h264 / rusty_h265
  3. Thumbnails and stills through rusty_jpeg / rusty_png before they hit SpaceDB
