Memory

rusty_alloc, SpaceDB: local-first replicas

Why this band exists

A free internet fails if "local" still means a C heap that corrupts on double-free, or a database that pretends us-east-1 is the source of truth. Remade Memory is safe allocation plus CRDT replicas that keep your data near you, durable across the mesh, without a landlord.

Why now

Durable used to mean someone else's Postgres. Home Computers, Disco peers, and WASM apps need a folder you can point at: offline on Tuesday morning, mergeable when the laptop wakes, compressible without smuggling libzstd CVEs back into the graph.

How it fits

Identity stores capabilities beside the person. Mind caches transcripts that must not leave. Media drops thumbnails into the same shelf. Edge boards sync when radios allow. Trust seals the crates under the store. Memory is the drawer inside the Home Computer.

Stars in Memory

Each crate is open under Remade-With-Rust. Open the repo, then the field note, then compose with the rest of the sky.

  • SpaceDB · replaces cloud DB / Firebase

    CRDT-native local replica → mesh

  • rusty_alloc · replaces mimalloc

Pure-Rust allocator across wasm & ESP

  • rusty_erasure · replaces ISA-L Reed-Solomon C

    Shard durability across peers

  • rusty_zstd · replaces libzstd

    Compression without C

  • rusty_json_turbo · replaces serde_json (patched)

    Byte-identical JSON, whole-graph patch

  • rusty_time · replaces chrony / vendor NTP

Auditable time for grants and CRDTs

What to build first

  1. A local-first app on SpaceDB with CRDT entries and mesh sync as a choice
  2. A wasm or native binary on rusty_alloc so the heap matches the rest of the house
  3. Snapshots and packets compressed with rusty_zstd before they cross the mesh
